Mid-Semester Review

Students who are new to UB are often unaware of the academic norms of their new environment and their standing with respect to those norms. If you are in your first semester at UB, expect that we will ask your instructors to provide mid-semester evaluations of your performance using indicator codes of: Satisfactory (S), Unsatisfactory (U), or progress not yet available (I). Mid-semester progress reports received from faculty will be transmitted to you and to your advisors. You are encouraged to promptly follow up with your instructors and advisors where your performance is less than satisfactory.

What should you be thinking about if you receive "U" evaluations or are not satisfied with your own performance?

Since this is midway through your first semester you should think about or do the following:

  • Make an appointment right away to see your instructor.
  • Make an appointment with your academic advisor to go over all of your options (should you stay in the course or resign the course?)
  • Seek tutoring for the specific courses in which you are under-performing.
  • If you are working more than 20 hours per week, think about cutting back some hours to get more studying done.
  • Attend an academic success workshop on time management, study skills, test anxiety, etc.
