Latest Blog Post: Fall 2014 Registration for Classes

“This program also allowed me to realize all of the great services and opportunities here at UB to help students succeed, have fun, and get good grades.”

What motivated me to take the Finish in 4 pledge was when I went to UB’s Discovery Day last year, and found out of such a great program. For once I felt like there was finally a university that actually cared about students’ futures and wanted their students to be as successful as possible. This initiative helps students complete their four-year degree in four years so students aren’t taking out more loans or having parents pay more money for an unnecessary fifth or sixth year. If the student follows all the guidelines of the program and is not able to finish their degree in four years the university will pay for the UB classes needed to complete the degree.

This program also allowed me to realize all of the great services and opportunities here at UB to help students succeed, have fun, and get good grades. When I met with my Finish in 4 advisor she helped me search for other programs that will help me out in the future. Another thing that was helpful was the UBE 101 class. Some students question having to take this class, but I know it helped me personally and academically. I had such great mentors in my class that gave such good advice that I know I will always remember. Every time I went into that class I felt like I was going to workshop to relax and take all the stress of that week off my shoulders for about an hour. I am so grateful to be at a university with such great programs to help students succeed and figure out what they want to do with their future.

“I think that Finish in 4 has benefited me most when I developed my curricular plan with my advisor.”

I took the pledge to Finish in 4 because I have always been a motivated student. Finish in 4 offers me many tools to guarantee my success in college. I am guaranteed to meet with my advisor each semester to plan out my next semester, which is very helpful because scheduling especially in the first few semesters can be very tricky. In addition, as a requirement of Finish in 4 requires you to stay on track with your responsibilities. While this seems like it would not be a difficult thing to do, sometimes it is easy to become overwhelmed and forgetful. That’s where Finish in 4 comes in to remind you to register for classes on time and meet with your advisor. Also, taking a freshman seminar (UBE 101) was really helpful for me. It provided a great transition from high school to college and got me acquainted with UB.

I think that Finish in 4 has benefited me most when I developed my curricular plan with my advisor. Having the plan for my next four years is incredibly helpful. It allows me to know how many credits I will have, shows me spots for my electives, but also allows some flexibility for me to move some classes to different semesters. Based on my experiences thus far, I would definitely recommend taking the Finish in 4 pledge to any incoming student. It is so helpful as you navigate through your college journey!

Latest Blog Post: Take The Pledge…

“Finish in 4 helps students to stay on track as they can actively focus on achieving career goals…”

Finish in 4 is an essential component of college that I deem significant because it motivates students to finish their undergraduate degrees in a timely and productive fashion. I decided to take the pledge to Finish in 4 because I wanted the assistance and attention that I would need as a first year student. Finish in 4 helps students to stay on track as they can actively focus on achieving career goals through pre-outlined courses and mandatory advisor meetings. I find that I have a better understanding of what is expected of me and the necessary steps that I will need to take to ensure the completion of my pledge requirements. The most important part about finishing your education in four years versus five or more is that you are not delaying your future, or wasting money, The MyPlan assessment and a Group Debrief session helped me identify majors that not only best met my interests, but my personality and my daily activities. I was very much pleased by the results and was able to take action immediately.

I still remember the excitement I felt when I received my acceptance letter from the University at Buffalo. I was ready to start this new chapter of my life and could not wait to see what the next four years had in store for me. After being introduced to the Finish in 4 program during my first advising session, I decided to take the pledge because it solidified my goal to complete my degree in four years. The commitment I made during my first semester definitely shaped my transition from high school to university life and how I would move forward during the rest of my time here at UB.

Finish in 4 has strengthened my focus on what I want to achieve and provides the resources to guarantee my success. Completing the MyPlan (career) assessment and attending the debrief session highlighted my interests and confirmed that I made the right decision in choosing my major and minor. Latest Blog Post: My Future Path

“Taking the pledge is one of the best choices I have made in college because it made my first semester seem pretty easy and made me feel I was on track for success.”

After getting my acceptance letter to the University at Buffalo, I was very excited and nervous at the same time. My future was ahead of me but I did not have any idea how I was going to approach college for the first time. My first day on campus, I took the Finish in 4 pledge to help me plan my entire four years in college the way I wanted it to be, and also graduate on time if I keep a good GPA and do everything required of me. That sounded like a good deal because I will be on track and have support and assistance along the way throughout my four years at UB.

One thing about taking the pledge that was helpful and which I enjoyed was going to the UBE 101 class. This class helped me make good friends (who were also in most of my other classes). It also helped make being in a large lecture feel more comfortable. Also the UBE 101 instructor made sure the students knew about all the resources here on campus, including: computer technology assistance, tutoring, Career Services and more. Taking the pledge is one of the best choices I have made in college because it made my first semester seem pretty easy and made me feel I was on track for success.

Latest Blog Post: Summer! A look back at last Semester!

“Finish in 4 has provided me with a clear guideline in terms of what classes to take for Computer Engineering.”

Life is short. Tomorrow is not promised. Graduating on time is extremely important, not only as a student but also as a person. Had I not chosen to take the pledge, I’m pretty sure I’d be somewhat confused right now. Also, as an international student, this was my first semester in an American institute of higher learning. Finish in 4 has provided me with a clear guideline in terms of what classes to take for Computer Engineering.

Other available resources like internships, research, tutoring and campus involvement also help you satisfy elective credits and learn the dynamics of the real-world work environment. The UBE 101 class introduced me to valuable resources I would never have known about had I not taken the class. As part of Finish in 4 you get to register easily for your required classes and if by chance one is full, there is assistance to get into it. The advisors work closely with you, on a case to case basis. They’ll take into account your choices and interests outside of the general guidelines, and help you personalize your academic plan.

I think it’s safe to say, taking this pledge was one of the best decisions I’ve made here at UB!

“…it’s a great way to make sure that you utilize the many resources and people willing to help you to be successful at UB.”

I took the Finish in 4 pledge because it provides me help from UB to graduate on time and it’s a great way to make sure that you utilize the many resources and people willing to help you to be successful at UB. The Career Services Office and C-STEP program are just two of the many helpful programs that UB has to offer. C-STEP helps me prepare to be success in my major and Career Services will help me get summer internships and network with other UB alumni. Also, if I didn’t take the pledge, I wouldn’t have been in UBE 101. Without that class I would not have known about all the great things that UB has to offer. My academic advisor has helped me layout a four year plan for receiving my degree and meeting my requirements to apply for dental school. The responsibilities of finishing in four years may get challenging (in terms of time management) but it’ll be worth it in the grand scheme of things. Overall, Finish in 4 is a tremendous opportunity. It is a no-risk high, reward program. And, if you fulfill all of the pledge requirements of Finish in 4 but don’t graduate in four years, UB will cover the cost of the remaining (UB) classes needed to complete your degree.
