UB’s Physics Department will be offering PHY 100 for the FIRST TIME as a summer course in Summer 2009. The course will be offered in both sessions.
Note: PHY 100 will NO LONGER be offered in a Fall or Spring semester.
The PHY 100 course is intended as a preparation for College Physics or General Physics courses (PHY 101-102 or PHY 107-108). Basic physics concepts, problem solving and basic mathematical skills are strongly emphasized. Since the course is taught at a relatively slower pace in a small classroom setting with lesser physics content than PHY101 or PHY107, it is strongly suggested for students requiring additional preparation before taking PHY101 or PHY107 in the Fall semester. Students who have not had a high school physics course are strongly encouraged to take this course.
After completing this course, one should be familiar with the nature of physics exemplified by Newtonian mechanics and its every day applications and would have acquired the basic math skills and reasoning strategies to solve problems and answer conceptual questions in mechanics. At the end, we are certain that you will appreciate the universal nature of physics laws and their applications in science and technology.

More information about PHY 100 will be available from the Physics departmental web site. Additionally, for future questions, students can contact Olivia C. Emrich, Assistant to the Chairman, Physics Department, Room 235 Fronczak Hall, 716-645-2017.
Remember to use the Winter Break to your advantage! Benefit from one of these upcoming opportunities!

If you are NOT returning to UB this Spring 2009 semester, be sure that you talk with an Academic Advisor to file the appropriate paperwork to let the University know of your change in status. If you are undecided about a major, remember to consult with an Academic Advisor from Student Advising Services.
