Are You Planning Ahead for Your Fall Final Exams?

Posted November 15, 2007 in General

Fall 2007 FINAL EXAMS are just around the corner. Are you prepared? Be sure that you have consulted the Final Exam Schedule and that you have spoken with your instructors for any updated information regarding your exams.

HAVE A FINAL EXAM CONFLICT?

According to UB’s Student Response Center, if you observe that you are scheduled for TWO exams during the same examination period or you have THREE exams scheduled on one day, then you have an “EXAM CONFLICT .”

Contact the instructors of the courses and explain the conflict in exams. Usually, one instructor will be able to schedule an alternate time for you to take his/her exam. If you are unable to arrange the re-scheduling of your examination with faculty, then contact the appropriate Dean’s Office for assistance.

If your final exam is assigned to more than one classroom, contact the instructor during the last week of classes to determine to which room you are to report for the exam.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR EXAMS!

Are You Considering an Internship this Spring?

Posted November 15, 2007 in General, Exploring Majors & Careers

According to Peter Vogt’s article, Internships Can Give You an Edge, employers can draw several important conclusions about students if they have participated in at least one internship, co-op program or similar experience during college.

Be sure and read Vogt’s insightful article to learn how doing a college internship can be extremely positive for students because it shows that students:

“Have the right stuff.”

“Are truly committed to their chosen field.”

“Won’t need much training and hand-holding.”

Are You Interested in Doing an Internship this Spring?

If you have an approved UB major, contact your academic department to learn if any opportunities might be available.

Talk with UB’s Cora P. Maloney College and learn more about the Public Service Internship Program.

Are You Ready for the Holidays?

Posted November 2, 2007 in General, Have You Heard from Your Peers

Vanessa is one of two Peer Assistants in the office of Student Advising Services. Her advice to fellow UB students throughout the next two months and as the holiday season is approaching is:

The next two months are the craziest time for college students! Here are some tips to get you prepared for the holiday season.

1) Make plans for your transportation over the holidays as early as possible! Schedule BOTH of them now! The sooner the better (and cheaper).

2) Do not forget that final exams come up extremely quick right after Thanksgiving. Get most of your work done BEFORE you leave for break.

3) Do not forget you are still a full time student while you’re enjoying your time with friends and family over break. Make a list of things to get done over break. This may include studying, making an outline for that final paper, making flashcards for an exam, catching up, or reading ahead in classes.

4) Plan your holiday shopping early, that way everything will be done and you can focus on school.

5) TIME MANAGEMENT! If you know you’re going to be working more hours and longer shifts plan accordingly.

6) Stay healthy! Try to relieve stress by working out or using meditation.

7) Get plenty of rest because no one wants to get sick around this time of the year.

***Do you have a question for one of our Peer Assistants? Remember you can contact them at sas-peer@buffalo.edu or visit them in Student Advising Services in 109 Norton Hall!
