Can I change my Fall Schedule?

Posted May 23, 2006 in New Students

New freshmen are registered for their fall semester schedule based upon academic interests, skill levels and university requirements (such as General Education requirements). Your schedule also includes some blocked courses (typically English, World Civilization, and Math courses). This means that you will have some classes with the same students. Over the past five years new students have found this to be a very good idea during their first semester at UB.

Now we realize that for some students a change in schedule may be required.
For example, AP score results or taking a summer course might result in different course placement. You must contact your assigned academic advisor who originally made your schedule to discuss these circumstances, refer to the Advising Directory.

If you attempt to change your schedule on your own, you run the risk of being closed out of required courses. If you drop a course and cannot get back into it or in another section, you could be forced to make other course choices.

So if you are considering changing your Fall 2006 schedule, please speak with an academic advisor beforehand.

Online Job Boards Picks

Posted May 11, 2006 in General, Exploring Majors & Careers

While the importance of placing phone calls to networking contacts and conducting face-to-face informational meetings are still highly recommended strategies to successful job hunting, UB’s Career Services has additionally provided a list of their favorite online job boards. Students are encouraged to utilize these sites as a way to learn about the types of jobs available in their industry as well as to learn about the skills and qualifications employers are seeking.

Take a look at a few of their favorite online job boards. Remember that not all jobs are for professionals with several years of experience. Try typing in “entry level” in the keyword search to see if it will produce a more targeted set of results for you.

BullsEye - Career Services’ very own online job board. Students and alumni may view job postings, post their resume, and more.

UB Career Services’ Staff Picks - They put their heads together to assemble this extensive list of online job boards for UB students and alumni.

Idealist.org - Is one of their favorite resources for jobs in the nonprofit sector. It is excellent for entry level liberal arts majors.

iambuffaloniagarajobs.com - A local job board for local opportunities.

Associationjobboards.com - A site that links to the job boards of dozens of professional association web sites.

The Riley Guide - While this is not a job board in itself, this site is an excellent resource for finding those smaller “niche” job boards for specific career fields.
